CTL intros home version of Intel tablet Classmate PC

CTL has recently announced its 2goPC convertible educational notebook, modeled after the second-generation Classmate PC Intel officially introduced on Friday at the CES in Las Vegas. As one of Intel's partners in its Intel Learning Series initiative to create software and hardware products to enhance children's learning experiences, CTL is one of the first manufacturers to launch the PC, offering a first look at the detailed specs. The 8.9-inch 2goPC sports a 1.6GHz Atom chip, has a resolution of 1024x600, and a VGA output.

On-board memory comes courtesy of a 60GB hard disk drive, with 1GB of RAM that is expandable to 2GB. Users, children or otherwise, can connect to networks and the Internet via integrated b/g Wi-Fi or an Ethernet jack, and there are two USB 2.0 ports for adding on peripheral devices. A 2-in-1 memory card reader is integrated, and users get the option to boot the system via the USB or memory card connection. There is no pre-loaded operating system, though Windows XP is available and Linux is supported.

A removable carrying handle lets students carry the notebook around easier, while the included stylus lets them navigate its features when in tablet mode. An integrated camera and two speakers give students a chance to perform video chats and listen to multimedia files.

The 2goPC is available now through CTL's webstore, priced at $549.
