Boost unlimited $50 plan
The Sprint sub-brand, Boost Mobile, announced on Thursday a $50 Monthly Unlimited plan for its iDEN-based offerings that includes unlimited monthly calling minutes, text messaging, wireless Web access and push-to-talk services. The pre-paid plan will offered starting on January 22nd, and Boost is expecting it will attract many customers currently on subscription plans, with the majority expected to switch over from T-Mobile's own subscription services.
At the same time, Boost said it will launch new devices, including an entry-level candy-bar handset and possibly a smartphone, though these are unconfirmed. The plan bests the current offering for iDEN clients of 600 daytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends along with unlimited web, texting and PTT services which costs $70. CDMA customers in select markets already get an unlimited plan without the push-to-talk feature for the same $50. [via RCR]

Lots of potential
Based on my brother’s recommendation, I gave Boost a try over 7 months ago when I was let out of my previous contract. I love not having to worry about a contract and their $50 unlimited plan is a real money saver over my $110+ previous bills – no worry about overage fees from texting anymore.
The phone selection is much better than I expected and still pretty affordable. The Sprint powered calling network is giving me pretty dependable coverage with the ocassional dead zone. The internet can be a little slow depending on the area and the downloads are a bit pricy, but nothing I haven’t seen before.
Speaking of dependable, Boost’s parent company Sprint has a whole new program out that is really helping people get and keep a cell phone.
Their “Assurance Wireless” program is being in offered in five states and exclusively to low income, qualifying families and its an amazing deal. Qualifers can get both a phone and 200 minutes, with no fees or contract, for free with the potential to expand their program at. 10 a minute. While the program is new, I can only hope it will expand to more states and people who could also use a plan like this.
