Nokia 5730 XpressMusic

A pre-production version of an upcoming Nokia handset, the 5730 XpressMusic, has received a hands-on review recently, revealing many specs on the QWERTY handset. Very similar in design and layout to the Nokia E75, the 5730 will sport a horizontally sliding keyboard with backlit keys. Its display, however, will be smaller, at 2 inches and with a 240x320 resolution. As the name suggests, the handset will have an emphasis on music playback, with dedicated external controls, including a button to engage Nokia's Say and Play voice navigation.

There is an 8-channel equalizer integrated into the 5730, along with an FM radio tuner with RDS support. Headphones are included in the package and connect via a standard 3.5mm stereo jack on the top edge. The handset has a microSD memory card slot and will ship with an 8GB card in some markets, though the hands-on test revealed microSDHC cards with capacities as large as 32GB are supported. A miniUSB port sits beside the card slot, allowing users to connect the handset to their computers. Built-in storage is set at 140MB, and there is 128MB of virtual memory.

On the other side of the handset are the volume buttons, along with a dedicated shutter button for the 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, an LED flash and a Carl Zeiss lens. The lithium-ion 1,000mAh battery is rated to last 4.5 hours of conversations or 270 hours of stand-by time.

Available in blue or red, the 5730 XpressMusic handset is reportedly due for an April release, priced at the equivalent of about $285; it's unclear whether such pricing will carry over to Europe or will include an American launch. [via MobileReview]
