Visual VM for Bold coming

A forthcoming operating system update for the BlackBerry Bold handset on AT&T's wireless network will bring with it visual voicemail capabilities, according to a Monday BGR report. There is no set date for the release of the update, dubbed OS 4.6.0.219, or whether all Bold owners and AT&T subscribers will get it. BGR has captured some screenshots of the software, however.

When the update does arrive, it will be one of the first to allow for visual voicemail on AT&T handsets other than the iPhone. AT&T competitor Verizon released its visual voicemail software late last year, which is compatible with many handsets, but has since been sued for allegedly infringing patents owned by Klausner Technologies, along with LG, Google, and six other companies. More recently, Verizon settled the lawsuit and is now offering the voicemail service to its subscribers.

    Wow

Wow – that is one ugly-a** interface.

Didn't Apple have tons of patents for Visual Voicemail?

    voicemail

apple has lots of iphone-related patents to the best of my knowledge, they weren't the first to the visual voicemail party and were the target of a patent infringement lawsuit shortly after its introduction. i'm not sure what the outcome was of that particular suit.

    clarify

they were the first one's to deploy it in a consumer device, they just weren't the first ones to think of it. that's why they were sued. That having been said, just another example of how flawed the patent system is and these silly little companies running around patenting this and that without utilizing any of the broad ideas they've protected.
