Dell Adamo Foxconn Rumor

Dell's ultra-thin Adamo notebook may not be available until the second half of the year, a leak from alleged sources of Digitimes says. The ultraportable is purportedly already in sample production by well-known Chinese manufacturer Foxconn but won't enter volume production until the second half of 2009, when about 400,000 of the systems should be made.

Foxconn spokesperson Edmund Ding doesn't overtly deny the orders but claims the company has "no knowledge" of these orders.

While unverified, a launch in the timeframe potentially explains Dell's low-key CES presentation, which showed a non-functioning prototype 13-inch Adamo and provided no details about specifications. At the event, the company said it would release the Adamo sometime in the first half of the year.

The system has been publicly touted as a direct challenger to Apple's MacBook Air and is designed to be fashionable with more precise construction.
