Box 2 Box storage device
Datto has announced Box 2 Box, a network attached storage (NAS) device that synchronizes information between two storage boxes regardless of location. As part of a peer-to-peer storage system, the boxes connect across the Internet regardless of firewalls or settings and are designed to offer users a secondary location to store their files. For security purposes, AES+SSL encryption is provided during off-site file transfers. The storage devices come in a variety of sizes, allowing users to store 250GB, 500GB or 1TB.
Unlike Datto’s previous storage boxes, which consist of on-site NAS that uploads a user’s content onto a server, Box 2 Box only keeps information within the synced devices. Available as both a single unit and a paired set, all Box 2 Box systems can be paired with any device that uses Synapse technology. The paired set comes pre-synced and ready for use.
Box 2 Box comes in various prices depending on the storage requirements, and ranges from $800 to $1,100 for a twin pack of storage systems, or $450 to $620 for single units. Currently the company is offering a pre-order sale price that lowers the cost of different models by up to $250.
