Dell MePhone Rumor
Dell's increasingly rumored first smartphone may hinge on borrowing the philosophy behind its computers if a new, alleged leak to Alley Insider late Thursday proves accurate. The tip alludes to the device tentatively being called the MePhone in a clear attempt to play on the iPhone name and would appropriately center on customization, though whether this would simply include shell colors and other cosmetic touches or else would focus on more open software isn't known.
The tip would also have Dell target a launch for September 9th to hit a symbolic 9/9/09 release, though why this would be is also unclear.
The rumor is uncorroborated by itself, though Insider says it has heard from its own sources that a Dell smartphone plan exists in some form. Current claims would also have Dell looking into using either Android or Windows Mobile, either of which are generalized phone platforms that support more deeply integrated native apps than the iPhone and play into the MePhone notion of a more customized experience.

I can't wait
to jump onto a new Dell platform that will be out for about 2 years tops before they cancel the miserably failed project and try to make everyone forget it ever existed. Good luck getting updates after that happens.
Dell, why do you even bother?
