NVIDIA 40nm Video Cards
Industry contacts have purportedly said Fudzilla today that NVIDIA's next mainstream video chipsets will primarily be manufacturing refinements of existing hardware built on a smaller 40 nanometer technique. Despite a new name, the GeForce GT 225 should be a shrunken version of the GeForce 8800 GS (and 9600 GSO) that runs cooler and potentially faster. The GeForce GT 220 would in turn apply the 40nm process to the GeForce 9500 to boost the clock speed without affecting heat or power use.
A budget chipset, the GT 210, would be a relative of the GeForce 8500 and 9400 with the same manufacturing and likely speed improvements.
When cards based on the chipsets will appear isn't clear, though NVIDIA is also rumored to be using the CeBIT show in early March to introduce rebranded versions of the GeForce 9800 GT and GTX+ as the GT 240 and GT 250 respectively; the introductions are a potential door to other card introductions.
