Samsung i8910 Acme Leak

Samsung is developing a handset that would more conspicuously target the iPhone than the Omnia or any other model, a leak to Gaj-it shows. Known alternately as the Acme and the i8910, it would have the full touchscreen and familiar hardware call buttons of other Samsung touch phones but would be extremely thin and have rare or unprecedented features like an 8-megapixel camera with HD video recording and HDMI video output.

The numbered naming scheme also suggests it may be the first non-Nokia phone to use the touchscreen-ready Symbian S60 OS and would include DLNA media sharing between itself and compatible devices like the PlayStation 3 or some computers.

Besides its shape and controls, the phone should also share similarities to the iPhone through a more sensitive and durable glass screen, GPS, Wi-Fi and built-in storage of 8GB and 16GB in two separate versions. A 3.5mm headphone jack is also a given, though network support isn't mentioned; the high-end nature suggests 3G over HSPA.

When the Acme would launch isn't mentioned at all, though the escaped details have surfaced less than two weeks before Mobile World Congress and give Samsung its earliest high-profile opportunity to introduce the phone. The claimed insider providing the phone details suggests the device will be relatively expensive.
