Acer Smartphones at MWC

Acer this afternoon made official the first smartphones to launch under its own name. The Tempo X960 serves as the range leader for mainstream phones and centers on a 2.8-inch touchscreen and a customized Windows Mobile 6.1 interface with large, finger-sized buttons for common tasks as well as widgets for weather and other quick but frequently accessed features. It comes with a relatively quick 533MHz Samsung processor and is outfitted with a 3.2-megapixel camera, GPS and Wi-Fi. A microSDHC slot and a directional pad provide storage and backup controls respectively.

For business users, the F900 is a more media-oriented alternative to the X960 and drops non-touch input for the same 3.8-inch display as the M900 while keeping the 3.2-megapixel camera and other features of its X series equivalent.

Rounding out the launches, the DX900 is tailored to Asians and Europeans that regularly use two SIM cards to mix prepaid services, roam continents, or to keep separate phone lines. It gets the same 2.8-inch display and 3.2-megapixel camera as the X960 along with its sibling's other features.

All four phones support quad-band GSM/EDGE and tri-band HSPA 3G with explicit 850MHz support, hinting that all of the phones will be available in North America in some capacity. Acer hasn't said when the handsets will ship.
