Samsung Shift, LG Etna

Two new messaging-themed phones are headed to AT&T, reports indicate. The first, the Samsung Shift, is a candybar design with a QWERTY keyboard. The design is believed to be oriented around keeping costs down, as data speeds are limited to EDGE rather than 3G, and an onboard camera shoots at just VGA resolution. Also omitted is any form of external storage.

The LG Etna -- also known as the GT365 -- is a mid-range phone likewise equipped with a QWERTY keyboard, but arranged in a slider design. The phone additionally uses a haptic touchscreen, eliminating the need for a number pad, and upgrades its camera to two megapixels. Wireless support includes stereo Bluetooth. Exact prices and release dates for the Shift and Etna remain unknown.
