Hitachi acquires Fabrik
Hitachi GST today has announced it will be acquiring Fabrik, a privately-held supplier of personal and professional storage devices. As a result of the integration, Fabrik will remain intact and work as the core of Hitachi GST’s newly-formed external storage business. In addition, Hitachi will also be offering full support of Fabrik’s G-Technology and SimpleTech storage brands. According to President of Hitachi Steve Miligan, the combination of the two companies will expand their market reach and bolster their combined product range.
During the transition, Mike Cordano, a CEO and co-founder of Fabrik, will be joining Hitachi GST as a key member of the executive management team. Cordano has 20 years experience in the data storage industry and was one of the people responsible for launching the OneTouch external storage and backup system. With the announcement of the integration, Cordano claims that Hitachi provides Fabrik and its customers all the benefits of a company that makes both the hard drives and the enclosures themselves. Fabrik has a history of providing storage devices for the Mac and plans to continue along that line while working with Hitachi.
Currently, any financial information about the merger has yet to be released, while the deal is expected to close early in the spring.
