Olympus unveils E-620 DSLR with swivel LCD

Olympus E-620

Olympus this morning preceded PMA with a launch for the E-620. The camera replaces the mid-grade E-520 and is not only smaller but also billed as the smallest DSLR with in-camera image stabilization; it also gets the 12.3-megapixel sensor depth and TruePic III+ image engine of the E-30 that let it shoot between ISO 100 (in extended mode) and ISO 3,200, but scales back to 4 frames per second and a 7-point autofocusing system.

A new 2.7-inch swiveling LCD both helps the E-620 shoot off-angle and provides a more comfortable position for the Live View system carried over from the E-520.

In software, other features carry over from the E-30, including Art Filters that recreate either vintage effects such as pinhole shooting or else deliberately exaggerate image tones. The E-620 also brings a multiple exposure feature to overlay shots and can force shooting in 4:3 and 16:9 ratios suited to TVs as well as 3:2 and 6:6. Shadow enhancement gets live previews on the LCD, while face detection and dust reduction carry over.

Olympus will ship the E-620 in May as both a body-only version for $700 as well as an $800 kit that adds a 14-42mm, f/3.5-5.6 lens.

Incorrect Item about E620

Hello,

Actually, the E-620 does not "replace" the E-520 as your article states. It will be available alongside it in the Olympus E-System DSLR lineup.

Thanks,
Michael

Thought that I would share this video that showcases students using Art Filters, Multiple Exposures and Multi-Aspect shooting featured on the new E-620 from Olympus as well as the E-30:
