Samsung Haptic 8M

Samsung today grew its touchscreen phone line by one and launched the Haptic 8M. The phone's name comes both through the haptic (vibration) feedback on its very high-resolution, 480x800 3.3-inch display but also an 8-megapixel camera that can tag and recognize faces in photos. It also carries flash, detects smiles and scans business cards.

The phone supports HSPA-based 3G up to 5.7Mbps downstream and, in its native Korea, supports T-DMB digital TV tuning; storage is handled through microSDHC cards. The company's now-ubiquitous TouchWiz interface stands as the front end and brings widgets for apps and info.

Samsung ships the Haptic 8M first to Korea, where it will be available through SK Telecom for the equivalent of $659 without a subsidy. The initial version won't support US 3G frequencies, though Samsung hasn't said whether or not the phone will be available elsewhere. [via Akihabara]
