Epson 410W projector

Epson on Monday announced it will soon add the PowerLite 410W projector to its line-up of classroom projectors, which is due to replace the current 400W (pictured) when it launches. Both short throw, widescreen 3LCD projectors share the same 1280x800 native resolution, filling out the 16:10 aspect ratio of most modern notebooks. Changes from the older model center on a shorter-throw lens that lets the 410W create a 60-inch, 16:10 image from just two feet away. To improve its usefuleness in small classrooms, the projector also gets a wall-mounting option.

Epson also upped the brightness of the 410W, now rated at 2,000 lumens versus the current model's 1,800 lumens. Otherwise, the 410W uses Epson's E-TORL lamp technology that is rated at up to 4,000 hours of battery life in economy mode, with replacement bulbs costing significantly less than the competitors'.

A 10-watt speaker and closed captioning decoder are built-in for the students' benefit, while an Ethernet port and LAN connection let IT staff control and monitor it remotely. Increasing installation options is a 1.35 digital zoom and a 15-degree vertical keystone correction for squaring off-center images. Added versatility comes from eight background color modes that allow color-correct images to be displayed on surfaces that are white or black or six other colors.

Shipping to stores late in April, the Epson PowerLite 410W will be priced at $1,299.
