Kerio Firewall: Mac VPN

Kerio has released WinRoute Firewall 6.6, adding a VPN client supporting Windows, Mac 0S X and Linux connectivity. The company says its customers have increasingly asked for cross-platform support, as mobile users switch to Mac and Linux machines. Kerio says the VPN software was completely rewritten, with a Mac client "fully integrated" with OS X.

Once installed on a client's machine, the VPN software automatically connects to the network when booted up. The Mac client is configured by clicking an icon in System Preferences.

Aimed at small- to medium-sized businesses, Kerio WinRoute Firewall also supports the use of persistent VPN tunnels, so customers can securely connect offsite servers to their local networks. The software includes user management, gateway virus protection, bandwidth control and an Internet link load balancer.

The VPN Client is available free for existing users of WinRoute FIrewall 6.6 and supports Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5. The Windows-based UTM gateway starts at $330 for 10 users or $400 with McAfee Anti-Virus software.
