Archos 2 pops up on Amazon
The replacement for the Archos 105 will soon be available, as the personal multimedia player, the Archos 2, is now available for pre-order at Amazon. According to the listing, the device will be available in black and white and sport an iPod-like chrome rear panel. Compared to the Archos 105, the new device from the French company will have much more capacity, at 8GB and 16GB, but use the same 1.8-inch screen.
At the same time, there is a report of an Archos 4 device, with larger capacities, at 16GB or 32GB, as well as a screen more than twice as big, at 4 inches. No other information, including pricing or availability, is known about the bigger device.
The Archos 2 will play MP3, WMA and WAV audio files, display AVI-format videos and show JPEG images. It has an integrated microphone and voice recording function, along with an FM radio. A microSDHC memory card slot expands storage. Battery life is rated at 12 hours of continuous audio playback or four hours of video.
While a specific launch date is unknown for either device, the 8GB Archos 2 is priced at nearly $60 on Amazon. [via ArchosLounge]
