HTC upcoming feature phone

HTC plans to enter the feature-phone market in the fourth quarter of 2009, according to the Chinese news outlet Commercial Times. If true, the company is expanding its line of handsets past the current offerings that are limited to smartphones. The phone will be based on Qualcomm's BREW Mobile Platform (BREW MP) and should offer a variety of applications for multimedia services, along with Internet capabilities.

The company's latest product launch, at the recent CTIA expo, also signaled a shift toward entry-level products. Although pricing has not been announced, the new Snap handset is geared for first-time smartphone owners, as opposed to existing lineup of feature-rich devices with higher levels of functionality and heftier price tags.

Additional information regarding the BREW MP-based feature phone have yet to be announced. [via DigiTimes]
