Nikon D5000 Swivel Rumor

Nikon could make a dramatic change with its starter digital SLRs as early as next week, a collection of rumors may have confirmed. An image from a Something Awful forum member shows what's purported to be a Nikon commercial shoot for an unannounced camera. The photo shows what appears to be a swiveling LCD, which would be a first for any Nikon pro camera; it also appears to show a small unit and carries badging that suggests the D5000 name is accurate.

That previous rumor hadn't mentioned a swiveling preview display but did suggest the D5000 would be a major image quality upgrade with the D90's image processing and an increase beyond the 3 AF points of the D40 and D60. Most also expect a 12-megapixel sensor and a video mode, though nothing greater than 720p.

The snapshot comes just days after a Nikon press event was slipped to Nikon Rumors. The Austrian event should take place April 14th and will likely include more than one product, though it's not clear whether this will involve another camera or simply additional lenses and flashes. Nikon is known to be developing the D400, but it's not known if it will be ready before the summer.
