Acer Aspire notebooks
At the same time as it announced the Aspire One 11.6-inch netbook on Tuesday, Acer also said it would soon release the 13.3-inch Acer Aspire 3935 notebook, the 15.6-inch Aspire 5935 and 18.4-inch Aspire 8935. The ultra-portable 3935 will be less than one-inch thick and available only in a golden brown color. To make typing easier and more comfortable, Acer gives the Aspire 3935 the same larger "chiclet" keyboard as the Timeline, along with touch-sensitive shortcut keys. Like in the Aspire One and Timeline, the 3935 has a multi-touch trackpad for pinch and other gestures.
Processing power comes from a choice of Intel Core 2 Duo processors, and the notebook can be equipped with up to 4GB of RAM. A hard drive is standard-fare, though a faster and more rugged solid state drive can be optioned up. The 3935 can be had with or without an optical drive. For security, a fingerprint sensor can also be ordered.
The Aspire 3935's metal structure finished in brushed aluminum houses a Wi-Fi/WiMAX module, with a 3G data module offered as an option. A webcam is built into the 1366x768 resolution and LED-backlit screen's bezel. An option 8-cell battery gives the notebook a claimed 8-hour operating life.
The Acer Aspire 5935 and 8935 include LED-lit displays, with the 8935 offering a full 1920x1080 resolution. Both have backlit keyboards and 5.1-channel surround sound support. Either has the capacity for up to 4GB of RAM straight from Acer, but there is no indication which Intel CPUs will power the two.
The 8935 can hold two hard drives for a total of 1TB of storage space, with the 5935 capable of holding a single 500GB drive. Either notebook integrates 802.11b/g/Draft-N Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, a Gigabit LAN port and modem in addition to a 6-in-1 card reader. WiMAX radio can also be added to either of the pair.
For communications, there is a webcam and Acer's Xpress VoIP phone is an option. The fingerprint scanner is another security option.
No release dates or pricing information have been announced for Acer's three new notebooks.
