Sprint finally to train staff on Palm Pre

Sprint Training for Pre

An internal Sprint e-mail leak on Friday has likely confirmed that Sprint is set to begin training staff on the Palm Pre. PreThinking's memo says to "expect training to start in April" for Sprint staff and that they should start receiving regular updates on the phone. While room exists for change in the schedule, the e-mail references an article just a week old and hints that both Palm and Sprint's plans may have firmed up in recent weeks.

The message contradicts word of training as early as January but doesn't necessarily provide clues to a specific release date for the Pre. Even at this month's CTIA, Sprint has maintained that the Pre ships in the first half of 2009. However, it does preclude an April release and hints that the smartphone will ship towards the end of the predicted timeframe.

Palm is under pressure to ship the Pre ahead of June, when Apple's iPhone OS 3.0 update and a likely iPhone hardware revision will provide added competition. The Sunnyvale, California company is also running low on funds and has taken to reselling shares to raise enough cash for operations through the launch of the Pre and an expected return to healthy sales.
