AMD notebook CPU roadmap

A number of codenamed AMD CPUs and mainboard have revealed by a couple of leaked confidential slides that reportedly originated from AMD and were given to Expreview. A platform dubbed Tigris be launched sometime this year and will include a "Caspian" 45nm CPU with up to two cores and DDR2 800MHz memory support. It will be paired with AMD's RS880M-series and SB710 chipsets, providing a ATI M9x era graphics chip with DirectX 10.1 support that gives HD video decoding as well as DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort connections for video and PCIe Gen 2 support. There will be support for 12 USB 2.0 connections as well as a pair of USB 1.1 connections and six SATA connections.

By 2010, the "Danube" platform will be launched, with "Champlain" CPUs with up to four cores and DDR3 1,066MHz RAM support. The same AMD RS880M Series chipset of the Tigris will be used, while an SB8xxM will add two USB 2.0 ports, a RAID interface, IR sensor, integrated clock generator and four PCIe GPP slots. The GPU will be a Manhattan-series model, though no other details on the future graphics were given.

The ultimate mobile platform from AMD will come in the form of the "Sabine" in 2011, which will be based on the Llano Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) that sports an integrated GPU and will be built on upcoming 32nm architecture. It will support up to four CPU cores and DDR4 1,600MHz RAM. Its AMD SB9xxM chipset will sport an integrated DAC and support the much faster USB 3.0 standard with 16 such ports, along with the other connections carried over from the earlier SB8xxM. The Sabine platform will also support DirectX 11 and UVD 3 technology.
