D-Link ships HD-ready powerline Ethernet kit

D-Link PowerLine HD Kit

D-Link this morning started shipping its PowerLine HD Ethernet Adapter Starter Kit. The bundle creates the equivalent to an Ethernet connection between a router and a device and stands out for its bandwidth: at 200Mbps in peak conditions, the kit has twice as much room as basic Ethernet and should reliably stream HD video over a local network. D-Link sees the adapters as ideal for game console and Slingbox owners who might need a fast connection but for whom Wi-Fi either isn't reliable or quick.

To meet its target, D-Link has support for quality of service packet monitoring puts a priority on Internet video and other high-priority network traffic. Security has also been factored in as a button-based system lets only approved devices join the network through the nearby power grid.

Buying a kit provides two adapters, which are enough to both link a router to a home's power and to get a device online at a receiving end. Its price is set at $140.
