LG Sells 2m Arena in 1 Mth

LG today said it has sold 2 million of the KM900 Arena since it went on sale in the first half of March. The tally includes the 1 million pre-orders leading up to the release and marks LG's fastest-selling phone to date; the original Chocolate music phone took 3 months to reach the 1 million mark.

The launch figures are some of the quickest for any touchscreen phone yet and, if they were to be sustained through a three month period, would come the closest for any one device to reaching Apple's 6.9 million iPhone 3G units sold during the summer 2008 quarter. By contrast, Nokia took all of its winter 2009 quarter to sell 2.6 million 5800 XpressMusic phones.

LG hasn't outlined its long-term plans for the Arena but does expect it to maintain faster growth than the Chocolate. The handset is also poised to launch in new countries and recently showed up at the FCC with an AT&T-friendly 3G band, suggesting it may come to the American provider in the near future.

    Bit by bit as iPhone...

sales are slowing, the Windows-powered touch handsets are grabbing back market share. It's understandable. They have a ton of features, they're inexpensive and can be used with any carrier. Apple should ditch it's exclusivity with AT&T ASAP. It's only been a few years, but it seems like forever. I'm tired of hearing people say that they would have bought the iPhone, but they don't want to switch carriers. I'm sure AT&T is good for Apple to some degree, but I'm sure Apple could sell many more iPhones with at least one more U.S. carrier.
