Violet Mir:ror RFID reader
Violet, maker of the Nabaztag Wi-Fi Rabbit, has released the Mir:ror RFID tag reader, which can trigger pre-set functions on a connected PC or Mac. The product ships with three Ztamps -- basically RFID stickers -- that users can then attach to objects around their house. Scanning said Ztamp attached to a representative object can then trigger an action on the computer, such as unlock it from a password-protected screen, get weather information, play music or send out e-mails.
The Mir:ror connects to a computer via USB cable and can detect up to four RFID tags at the same time from a distance of an inch or two away. Children can potentially scan specially-made books on the Mir:ror and have the computer read them while they follow along. An LED light ring around the perimeter of the Mir:ror makes it easy to find. To disable the reading capabilities of the Mir:ror and put it in standby mode, users can just flip it upside down.
The Mir:ror also includes two programmable Nano:ztag Micro-Rabbits. It is priced at $50 and available now through the Violet web store. [via i4u]
