Alltel Pearl Flip 8230

Alltel Wireless on Thursday announced it will soon be offering the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 smartphone on its network. The clamshell handset has a dual LCD display, with the larger, internal display's resolution set at 240x320 pixels. Once opened up, the familiar design remains with a SureType keyboard and access to driving directions and other mapping over GPS, which replaces the Wi-Fi from the Pearl Flip 8220 on T-Mobile.

Still images from the 2-megapixel camera can be saved onto the 8230's integrated memory, while video recordings have to be saved onto a microSD or microSDHC memory card inserted into the external slot. Popular digital music files are supported, and users can sync music from iTunes or Windows Media Player on both Macs and Windows PCs. The handset also has stereo Bluetooth support for wireless headsets.

Alltel is offering the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 for $80 after a $70 mail-in rebate and a two-year contract with one of Alltel's unlimited data, e-mail and Internet plans, which start at $70 per month.
