WPG Ships 2K9 iPhone Parts

Taiwan-area integrated circuit maker WPG is said today to be shipping power management chips for Apple's next-generation iPhone. The United Daily News says the part production will ramp up to where WPG will be producing "several million" chips per month. While not necessarily connected to the supposed contract, the firm is expected to boost its revenue between 5 and 10 percent in the spring and may be helped by such a deal.

The mention of WPG offering power management components potenitally contradicts a separate list of suppliers purportedly leaked last week that assigned the same parts to Infineon and NXP. It's unknown, however, whether or not WPG is simply contracted to build for one or both of the larger companies or else is producing parts under its own name.

Such reports come at the most likely time for Apple to require parts to start shipping, as it and most large-scale electronics makers often need at least one or two months of production to have enough stock for a wide launch. Most expect Apple to introduce its next iPhone at WWDC in June and to start selling the device within a few weeks of the unveiling.
