Sonnet launches R400P
Sonnet has released the Fusion R400P, a four-drive RAID SATA rackmount storage system. The system supports RAID 0, 1, and JBOD and arrives in a 1U rackmount enclosure. It is available in configurations from driveless to 6TB and has an eSATA single-cable port. The new unit is based on Sonnet's Fusion R400Q series and can reach speeds of 220MB/sec in a RAID 0 configuration.
The R400P in RAID 0 can support 16 DV streams, 9 HDV 1080i streams or can handle an uncompressed 10-bit 1080 HD stream. It is compatible with Apple's Final Cut Pro and Adobe's Premier Pro and it works with capture cards from AJA, Blackmagic, Matrox and Bluefish444.
The case features drive activity, drive presence, and power LEDs and uses quiet fans for cooling. Its integrated port-multiplier means only one eSATA cable is needed to attach the R400P. Mac platform users have the ability to hot-swap drives without a shutdown. The new system is expected to ship this week for prices ranging from $600 (bare) to $1900 (6TB).
