Ensemble HD updated
Epson on Tuesday today announced that its all-in-one Ensemble HD home cinema systems have been updated with the company's latest 3LCD projectors and are now called PowerLite Home Cinema 6100 and Home Cinema 6500 UB. Like earlier versions of the systems, the systems ship with all necessary components for a home theater install, including a 100-inch screen, surround sound speakers, receiver with integrated DVD player and a universal remote. These components come from Atlantic Technologies, with the speakers integrated into the motorized projection screen and the projector's cradle mount.
Perhaps in response to the economic climate, Epson is offering the systems as part of a do-it-yourself installation kit, as opposed to a professionally installed option only. The included AV controller connects to the Epson projector via an HDMI cable and has 1080p upconverting video processor from PixelWorks. In the flagship Ensemble HD 6500 UB system, this is upgraded to an HQV Reon processor. All models get an AM/FM radio tuner, auxiliary audio input, two HDMI v1.3 inputs and one set of HD component video inputs as well as a 10-inch subwoofer that contains an amplifier for 5.1-channel surround sound support.
For installation flexibility, the throw range on the projectors included in each kit ranges from 10 to 22 feet. At the same time, a Boundary EQ dial on the back panel of the subwoofer has five settings that let users adjust for how far away the projector sits from the subwoofer.
The entry-level Ensemble HD - 720 system includes Epson's PowerLite 720 720p HD front projector, which offers 1,600 lumens brightness and 10,000:1 contrast ratio. The Ensemble HD Home Cinema System 6100 features Epson's entry-level 1080p PowerLite Home Cinema 6100 projector, which ups brightness to 1,800 lumens and the contrast ratio to 18,000:1. The Ensemble HD Home Cinema System 6500 includes Epson's range-topping PowerLite 6500 1080p projector, rated at 1,600 lumens and a 75,000:1 contrast ratio.
Epson prices the Ensemble HD Home Cinema 720p at $4,999, the Ensemble HD Home Cinema 6100 at $6,499 and the Ensemble HD Home Cinema 6500 UB at $7,999.
