ASRock, Pegatron show Ion

NVIDIA's Ion platform for netbooks was spotted in two systems from ASRock and Pegatron at a recent press conference in Taipei, Taiwan. Also at the conference, NVIDIA said it expects its Ion platform to be available in 40 products that include netbooks, nettops and all-in-one PCs before year's end.

The conference saw ASRock and Pegatron show off systems running on the Ion platform, with the former's named Ion 330 and the latter's Cape 7. No other information regarding either system has been announced, though the Ion 330 does not appear quite finished and the Pegatron system is believed to be a codename that will be an OEM design other companies will purchase, re-badge and market on their own.

The 40 NVIDIA Ion systems will sport both single-core Atom 230 and dual-core Atom 330 CPUs, and many of them are expected to be unveiled at the Computex Taipei show in early June.

Ion uses an Intel Atom and allows for 1080p HD video processing in a much smaller package than Intel's own chipsets.

Thus far, the only system using the Ion platform is Acer's AspireRevo nettop. [via TweakTown]
