Eee PC Seashell official

After months of teasing with images and preliminary specs of its MacBook Air-fighting Eee PC Seashell netbook, ASUS has officially released specs for the portable PC. It sports a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 with the faster 667MHz system bus, 1GB of RAM and a 10-inch, 1024x600 display with an anti-glare coating. The optical drive-free netbook weighs just 2.2lbs and earns its name from the glossy exterior that acts as a scratch-resistant protective shell.

Suiting the 1-inch thick netbook's style, the lid contains small reflective specks that bounce light. The keyboard is 92 percent the size of a full size desktop computer's, while the touchpad supports multi-touch inputs for zooming and scrolling.

The portable contains a 2.5-inch, 160GB hard disk drive that is pre-loaded either with Linux or Windows XP Home. With each Eee PC Seashell, ASUS also includes 10GB of online storage. Wireless comes through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1. The lithium-polymer battery gives the netbook as much as 6 hours of battery life in spite of the slim profile.

Otherwise, the Seashell includes a 1.3-megapixel camera while connections are made up of a mini VGA output, two USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet jack and an MMC and SDHC memory card reader.

Available colors include white, black, blue, pink, red and sapphire blue. While official pricing for North America is still unknown, in Europe the netbook is believed to cost the equivalent of $754.
