Microsoft "Laptop" ads made on Macs?

MS Ads Made on Macs

Microsoft's Laptop Hunter ads were potentially made by a largely Mac-based marketing firm, a visit to Crispin Porter + Bogusky shows. In spite of producing ads showing creatives opting for less expensive PCs over Macs, the company contracted to produce the commercials is seen in photos using Macs near-exclusively, hinting strongly that most of the production was accomplished using various MacBooks and even some eMacs.

The apparent contradiction isn't entirely unexpected given the computer usage habits of the industry and the tendency for ad agencies to regularly serve multiple clients, but comes as Microsoft has tried to portray Macs as unnecessarily expensive in its own online and TV campaigns. Crispin Porter + Bogusky isn't Microsoft's only contracted agency but is the primary firm behind the $300 million push, which has also included the Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates spots. cut video!

what? they don't 'cut video' on that HP laptop running Vista which the nice lady in the ad (who totally is not an actress) picked up at Fry's Electronics in Encino?

    can you imagine

the edit sessions for that 'cut video' ad? They must have been busting a gut... at least so long as the client wasn't in the room.

    "I'm a PC"

MS' "I'm A PC" ads also cut on Macs, likely at this same shop.

It's humorous but not unexpected. I did a very large video project for a producer whose client was Lexus. The producer himself loved his Bimmers and wouldn't drive a Lexus if you gave it to him...

    perfect...

Another MS "strategy" ready to backfire and bite the dust?

I never heard the term "cut video" until I saw that ad. None of my video editor friends have EVER used it.

    It nearly writes itself.

"Hello, I'm a Mac.""I'm a PC. I'm a PC. I'm a PC.""I know that, PC. Why do you keep saying that?" "I've decided that I'm going to run ads repeating that message, so people know PCs are cool, too."- cuts to home made video of PC repeating "I'm a PC." doing various things. PCs ad ends with Made on a Mac.

    we knew that already

That's no surprise - that's partly what made the ads so ridiculous.

    big woop

A lot of firms companies outside firms to do ads, marketing, etc... You can't expect them to all use the same hardware or software as you make or would like...

This kind of stuff happens all the time... It's a non-story...

    re: cut video!

I tried to "cut video" with my mac.. but the edges werent sharp enough. but editing video worked just fine :)

btw: I got my refurbished 2.4 Ghz MacBook Pro for $1699 $100 to bring it to 4GB of RAM.. I found it, I kept it.. and saved over $200 :)

    Big deal.

    Honestly, who cares?

If you were influenced by the ads, you probably aren't tech-savvy enough to care about (or even be reading) this news.
