Android-based HTC Hero to become T-Mobile G3?

T-Mo G3 Possible Photos

T-Mobile may be prepping a third Android phone from HTC if a set of photos of the device bear out. Internally nicknamed the HTC Hero, the phone is expected by CodeAndroid to be rebadged as the T-Mobile G3 for a future US launch. It would have some of the aesthetics of the Touch Diamond2 and, like the Windows Mobile phone, would go without the trackball that has existed both on the T-Mobile G1 and the HTC Magic, instead using the touchscreen for nearly all of its navigation.

As compensation, the Hero appears to be dropping HTC's at times infamous preference for its in-house ExtUSB for headsets in favor of a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Few other details are revealed by the leak other than an angled back and the characteristic bottom "kink" of most Android phones to date.

Unofficial estimates have the phone launching as the G3 as early as the summer, though this contradicts a recent Android roadmap that has the T-Mobile G2 (HTC Magic) shipping during that timeframe.
