RIAA keeps suing individuals despite promises

RIAA still filing lawsuits

Despite announcing back in December that it would stop suing individual file sharers and use ISP monitoring instead, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is still filing such lawsuits, says a Tuesday TechDirt article. Not only is it going against what it said before, but RIAA lawyers are claiming the Association never made such a statement in a letter to Congress.

RIAA is believed to have made the original statement in December in an attempt to shake some of the negative image it has been getting for the lawsuits, and drew flak for using controversial tactics in court.

One of the most recent lawsuits from RIAA involved a group of students, though it is being appealed.

    RIAA=GOP

    they act just like the Republicans. Lies, deceit, bullying, abuse of the legal system, denial of reality.

    There, I said it. Flame away.

    What???

    The RIAA has gone back on their word? Say it isn't so! Next thing you know, we'll find out that the RIAA isn't out to protect the artists rights but their own income!

    RIAA=Monopoly

    One could view the pricing structure of the association as a monopoly against the public (rather than a single company monopoly against other competition). In other words, they can say and do what they want, regardless of the public impression, wants, or needs!

    The RIAA does not set

    No need to flame - but it should be pointed out that both R & D are equally corrupt, but neither are to blame - government, by democratic definition, CAN NOT self-regulate, but needs to be directed by a responsible and mentally invested population. What we have is a majority of people only interested in convenience & self-indulgence. What you get with that is run-away government that changes face every couple years to restore faith while it exponentially increases it's power base. The reason this country was founded was to get away from over-taxation and subjugation. Guess what? We're full-circle. Until the people of this country decide to take back their power, your freedom, wealth, and happiness will continue to deteriorate. Don't be a robot.

    Lawyers and Money

    Please realize that the justice system is won or lost by how much money you have. It isn't about who is right or wrong it is about who has the bigger war chest.

    Guess what?

    Whether the RIAA reneged or not, if these students weren't illegally ripping off this music, there would be NO news item, and no comments here. Being a college kid, or anyone else, does not entitle theft. Sort of like the old saw, Guns don't kill, people do. Put the blame where it belongs, the abusers.

    Re: Guess what

    That is assuming the students did anything wrong in the first place. It isn't like the RIAA has a great track record of nailing the correct suspects.
