Shinoda shows 145-inch PTA
Shinoda Plasma Corporation has recently unveiled its largest prototype Plasma Tube Array (PTA) display to date, with this curved 145-inch unit. The array is comprised of six 1m by 1m (39.4 inches squared) PTA displays arranged in a three-by-two orientation. Resolution is a rather low 960x720 pixels, but the display itself weighs just shy of 16lbs. The size trumps that of the last such display shown last year, the 125-inch PTA display.
The low weight of the panel is attributable to the PTA's 1mm (0.04-inch) thickness, with each panel coated in glass, phosphor-coated tubes that house the film electrode. This technology allows the display to be flexible and curved. Power consumption for the 145-inch PTA display ranges from 800W to 1,200W.
Shinoda has secured two investors to create automated production lines for its PTA displays, although when the displays will be released and what they will cost is unknown. [via Impress]
