Vizio takes hold of LCD TV market share

Vizio leads LCD TV market

According to first quarter reports, Vizio has surged into the leading position in the North American LCD-TV market. This is likely due to consumers with dwindling disposable incomes buying the company's price competitive models. Vizio has surpassed even Samsung and Sony, with unit shipment shares rising 21.6 percent since the end of the third quarter last year. iSuppli has suggested the economic downturn has caused people to look for more inexpensive brands of LCD-TV's with relatively good quality, and as such has turned to Vizio.

Vizio has also attempted to incorporate new features into its LCD TVs to make them more competitive with Samsung and Sony while dropping prices for the holiday season. Additionally, Vizio could be maintaining this success because of its stake in high-powered retail channels such as Walmart while higher-end brands are more likely to be found in electronics-specific or specialty stores.

    No Problem...

...with mine. Have had it for about 5 months. Installed in the bedroom but looks just as good as the Sony downstairs.

    Lasted 2 hours…

then "pop". Google "vizio pop of death" Understand your warranty coverage thoroughly. Fortunately, since it lasted less than a day Sams Club just refunded my money. Would have swapped for a new one, but I didn't want to risk two duds in a row. Too bad, because I like a lot of the features of the Vizio. They keep things simple, not a bunch of secondary "features".

Wow. Sounds like a Gateway computer a friend once had.

    Just bought 2nd one…

I bought a 50" Vizio from Sam's Club about 18 mo. ago and have looooveeeed it. Great picture, Mac mini shows movies stellar-ly. At the time, I felt it was a deal at $1499. Just got an even better deal for ANOTHER newer model 50" Vizio at $899/NO shipping straight from Vizio. It was delievered yesterday so although, I plugged it in to see it boot on, I haven't hooked anything to it yet. I'm sure it'll be great too!

I find that the Vizio's (and most every other plasma/lcd) sold at Wal-Mart ARE cheap. Picture quality is poor and generally they do have a high-def source playing through them so they look like c***. However, the bigger more expensive units have much better picture quality.

Oh,... they're both Plasmas. I buy plasma because the rooms they're in are low light for no glare --> picture is brighter and colors pop a lot better.

    Oops... I meant to say…

Oops... I meant to say… that normally the TVs at Wal-Mart DO NOT have a high-def source playing through so they look c***.
