Acer phones coming to US?
In response to yesterday's report regarding Acer's smartphones not coming to the US until 2010, an Acer America spokesperson informed Electronista that "there is potential" for a US smartphone launch in the fourth quarter of 2009. Not much else was disclosed however, other than plans are still being determined and updates will be forthcoming. It's still unknown whether the first US-bound Acer handset will be one of the Tempo handsets shown off at Mobile World Congress in February or an unseen device.
Another mystery surrounds the operating system of the device, with an Android-powered device, dubbed the A1, said to come out as early as September, although not necessarily in the United States. Rumors of Acer's Androind smartphones date back to mid-February and just after Mobile World Congress, when the PC maker's booth staff alluded to two such devices. In total, Acer announced eight handsets at MWC, with at least half of them powered by Windows operating systems and basically being rebadged E-TEN devices.
