D-Link adds captcha security to routers

D-Link has announced the integration of a Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart (or "captcha") into their home and small office routers. The security system is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to tell whether responses are human or computer-generated, and provides protection against malware attacks that might still be possible through a regular password-based system.
One common type of captcha used by D-Link requires users to type letters or numbers from a distorted image that appears on the screen. The approach prevents advanced techniques like image scanning from easily cracking the security method. A series of D-Link models that now feature the security system include the DGL-4500, DIR-615, DIR-655 and the DIR-685.
