Toshiba dynabook RX2

Toshiba on Thursday introduced the dynabook SS RX2/WAJ, its latest notebook that features a 512GB SSD. The drive utilizes 2-bit-per-cell multi-level NAND flash memory to quadruple the density compared to the company's previous 128GB offerings, while a new controller is claimed to increase read speeds by 230-percent to 230MB/s. Write speeds have also been boosted by 450-percent to 180MB/s.

The company designed the SS RX2 as a lightweight device, weighing approximately 1095g, and protected by a magnesium alloy case with thickness ranging from 19.5mm to 25.5mm. An ultra-low voltage 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU contributes to a claimed run time of 12 hours. The notebook ships with Vista Business pre-installed, along with 3GB of RAM.

A transreflective LCD supports resolutions up to 1280 by 800 pixels and uses natural sunlight to increase display visibility without switching to the backlight.

The dynabook SS RX2 is initially available only from Toshiba's Japanese store, with a price of 398,000 yen (~$4,100USD).
