Epson: new all-in-ones
Epson has revamped its consumer-oriented Stylus NX printer/scanner/copier line with new models featuring a more compact form factor. The devices have built-in image correction tools, LCD screens, manual two-sided printing and individual ink cartridges for each color. All three models use Epson DURABrite Inks which the company claims are smudge and water resistant, even on plain paper, and require no drying time.
The Stylus NX215 includes a 1.5-inch screen, a memory card slot supporting most formats, and direct-to-email scanning. Epson says the device prints up to 32 ppm (pages per minute) black and 15 ppm color, with optimized resolution up to 5760 x 1440. The scanner supports up to 2400 dpi. Borderless printing is available for 4"x6", 5"x7" and letter-sized photos.
Next in the line is the Stylus NX415, which features a larger 2.5-inch tilt-screen LCD, print speeds up to 34 ppm black and color, and copying speeds up to 33 ppm. Epson says the NX415 can print a borderless 4"x6" photo in 26 seconds.
At the high end of the line is the Stylus NX515. In addition to the features of the NX415, Epson has added Wi-Fi and ethernet networking with the ability to print, scan and access memory cards wirelessly. The device also supports one-touch copying with the ability to enlarge and reduce copies from 25 to 400 percent. Maximum print and copy speeds are listed at up to 36 ppm for black and color -- with "laser quality" printing at 15 ppm black, and about 9 ppm color. A 4"x6" borderless photo prints in 20 seconds.
Epson says all three printers are recyclable. The estimated street price for the NX215 is $90, the NX415 will sell for $100, and the NX515 will cost $150. All three will be available in June. The company is also releasing a low end Stylus NX115, but says the $70 device will have "limited availability." The entry level model lacks an LCD screen and has a maximum black ink print speed of 30 ppm.
