Epson Artisan 50 inkjet

Epson has added a new entry-level model to its Artisan line of inkjet and all-in-one printers. The Artisan 50 is equipped with six separate ink cartridges, and is designed for everyday use, including photos, documents and printing on CDs and DVDs. Epson says the printer is capable of 37ppm with black ink, and 28ppm when operating in color. So-called "laser-quality" print speeds are much slower, measured at 5ppm in black, and 4.8ppm in color. Manual two-sided printing is also supported.

The device handles borderless printing of 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, letter and 16:9 wide photos; a 4x6 color photo is said to print in about 11 seconds. The company's Claria inks are claimed to provide smooth gradations, accurate skin tones and longevity four times that of lab prints. The Artisan 50 should be available in June, at an estimated street price of $100. The printer will support standard or high-capacity ink cartridges.
