Sony to offer PSP game rentals?

PSP Online Rental Rumor

Sony has been experimenting with offering game rentals for the PSP, according to a source with access to game developers. The console maker is said by Develop to have been conducting briefings since the Game Developers Conference in March that would let users download and temporarily use full games similar to a conventional video store offering. In a later survey for gamers, Sony has also asked respondents if they would use a subscription service that offers a set number of game rentals each month.

No mention is made of whether Sony plans to move from experiment to actual service, or whether any actual production service would make an appearance at next month's E3 gaming trade show.

A rental service would further support claims of a UMD-less PSP Go! debuting at E3. While it may have the option of downloading permanent copies of full games like the already-available Patapon 2, a rental service would give PSPs frequent access to games but keep storage open by constantly rotating the selection of games.
