Rogers 6GB Promo Rumor

Canadian carrier Rogers may bring back its 6GB for $30 promo in a bid to keep subscribers interested in the iPhone and other devices, an apparent source within the company says. Although details of when it would show aren't mentioned, it's assumed by BGR that the promo would take effect for a few months this summer and would help drive sales not only of Apple's third-generation devices but also its Android phone launches within the next few weeks. The provider would otherwise give just 1GB for the same price and at best offers 5GB for $80 per month.

The 6GB special plan was offered as a last-minute concession after complaints from potential customers that the carrier's iPhone plans were far more restrictive than AT&T's. Although at times less expensive, its plans have commonly offered fewer minutes for the same money and no unlimited data options. Rogers has maintained that its bandwidth caps are high enough that many customers are unlikely to reach the limit on an iPhone within a given month.

Accompanying the plan rumors is word of pricing for the Android devices that shows both the HTC Dream (T-Mobile's G1) and HTC Magic (the eventual G2) selling for $550 out of contract. Expectations have subsidies bringing both prices down to $150 on a three-year plan, or significantly less than the iPhones that will likely serve as its competition.

    re: How? @ Salty

Well, considering that you get UNLIMITED data for $30 in the US on AT&T, and similar from O2 in the UK, it's a ripoff.

If you've been on Rogers long enough, you'll know that they're company's mission statement reads like the following:

"To rip off our customers to the best of our abilities, and find ways to trap them and backstab them at every opportunity, while maintaining our monopoly and topping off the pockets of CRTC staff and board members."
