LG 23in 3D Computer LCD

LG Display today demonstrated a new display that could make 3D more affordable for computers. The 23-inch, 1080p LCD embeds the hardware to generate the 3D effect directly into the monitor rather than requiring it in viewing glasses. Although glasses are still needed, the shift means viewers can depend on simple polarized models. It's also twice as bright as earlier 3D displays and so works more effectively in regular light.

The company hasn't said how close the display would be to production, although 3D displays are publicly available from Viewsonic and Samsung today. However, the LG technique wouldn't require glasses like the GeForce 3D Vision and so would be less expensive if mass-produced.

Except that iGlasses is taken by www.ecamm.com. Great utility for iSight.

    And the benefits are...?

Am I alone in finding little to no real practical benefit on a day to day basis? Can the 3D-ishness be turned off so the goofy glasses are not required?

    benefits

I'm sure if Apple produced the display, we'd be talking about what a great advance it was and all the ways Apple would be using it shortly to imrpove our lives.

    May not be practical for

everything, but would be great for all sorts gaming.

And medical imaging. And chemistry. And engineering. And architecture. And other geeky things I haven't thought of.

You know, I bet you could get properly polarized lenses inserted in any frames. Then you don't have to worry about the "goofy glasses" and use those you might already have.
