LG 23in 3D Computer LCD
LG Display today demonstrated a new display that could make 3D more affordable for computers. The 23-inch, 1080p LCD embeds the hardware to generate the 3D effect directly into the monitor rather than requiring it in viewing glasses. Although glasses are still needed, the shift means viewers can depend on simple polarized models. It's also twice as bright as earlier 3D displays and so works more effectively in regular light.
The company hasn't said how close the display would be to production, although 3D displays are publicly available from Viewsonic and Samsung today. However, the LG technique wouldn't require glasses like the GeForce 3D Vision and so would be less expensive if mass-produced.
