ASUS to update Eee Box PCs

Computer hardware maker ASUS will soon add two new EeeBox small form factor desktop PCs, the EB1002 and EB1006, according to a Friday NotebookItalia report. The former is said to have an integrated graphics processor while the latter will ship with dedicated graphics.

The ASUS Eee Box EB1002 is viewed as the entry-level offering, suggesting it will replace the current B202 Eee Box. It should have a 1.66GHz Intel Atom CPU along with 2GB of memory and a 250GB hard drive. The latter two are significant updates over the B202's 1GB and 160GB hard drive.

Conversely, the ASUS Eee Box EB1006 will become the flagship offering, likely to share the same CPU and RAM, but shipping with a dedicated video graphics chipset providing 128MB of RAM. While specifics on the PC aren't available, it is expected ATI will provide the GPU, as it does for other ASUS PCs.

The new Eee Box PCs will continue with the range's tradition of being extremely energy efficient and ultra quiet, and will also be VESA mount compatible to attach to the rear of most LCD monitors to free up desk space. No pricing or release date information is known for either of the new Eee Box PCs.
