Limited edition DJ Hero

A limited edition version of the upcoming DJ Hero video game will include exclusive greatest hits CDs from rappers Jay-Z and Eminem, along with an advanced version of the turntable controller, USA Today said on Friday. How the controller differs from the standard unit was not detailed, however. An offshoot of the highly popular Guitar Hero franchise from developer Activision, the limited edition game will also have a DJ stand and metal traveling case for the turntable.

Players will interface with the game via the turntable controller's rotating record platter, sampling buttons, an effects dial and a cross fader. Scoring points will be made by matching streams of songs, creating effects and adding personal touches. As in other games in the franchise, players will be able to play in co-op mode, with some mixes allowing them to use the Guitar Hero controller. Tracks from hip-hop, electronica, R&B, soul and pop/rock genres by such artists as 50 Cent, Beastie Boys, KRS-One, Blondie, N.E.R.D., Gorillaz and David Bowie, as well as DJs Shadow, Z-Trip and AM will be featured in the game.

DJ Hero is expected to be released this fall for the PS3, PS2, Xbox 360 and Wii gaming consoles, though pricing information is not yet known.
