Iomega adds eGo HD for mac

Iomega is targeting Mac users by adding a triple-interface model to its recently updated eGo line of portable hard drives. The eGo Portable Hard Drive For Mac is equipped with separate FireWire 400 and 800 ports as well as USB 2.0, and comes pre-formatted in the HFS+ file system. Mac-specific backup applications are also included.

The eGo for Mac comes in white, red and blue in sizes up to 500GB. Iomega says its Drop Guard technology protects the drive from drops of up to 51 inches. The 2.5-inch hard drive is housed in a half-inch thick aluminum case and requires no power supply, other than USB or FireWire. A Y-cable is included to give users the option of using two USB ports for power if needed rather than an AC adapter.

Downloadable free software includes EMC Retrospect Express, Iomega's QuickProtect, and MozyHome Online backup service. Windows versions are also available at no charge.

The Iomega Portable Hard Drive for Mac includes a three-year warranty and is available now. The 250GB Alpine White version costs $100, the 320 GB Midnight Blue model retails for $110, and the 500GB Ruby Red version sells for $150.
