LaCie LaCinema Black

LaCie announced on Wednesday it has released two new products meant to enhance a user's home multimedia experience. The LaCinema Black PLAY and RECORD are wireless HD media players connect to a user's home network via their built-in Ethernet ports or Wi-Fi connections. Available in 500MB or 1TB capacities, the drives sport an integrated UPnP client for easy access to media stored on networked PCs or Macs.

The pair can decode 1080p HD movies and upscale standard definition content to 1080i resolution. Supported video codes include MPEG-1, MPEG-2/HD, MPEG-4, DivX, XVID, H.264 HD and WMV9 HD and even more video formats. There is an HDMI output, composite and component video outputs and USB ports that let users connect external drives. Surround sound is supported thanks to an optical audio output.

As its name suggests, the RECORD adds Digital Video Recorder (DVR) functionality for recording TV shows via a connected set-top cable box. The RECORD also adds composite audio/video inputs along with S-video, and an antenna input and output.

The LaCinema Black PLAY and RECORD drives are available now, with prices starting at $430.
