Mossberg Hints new iPhone

Veteran columnist Walt Mossberg hinted in his Palm Pre review late yesterday at the release of the next iPhone. The writer is adamant that the new Apple phone is due next week and cautions that some of Palm's equality or superiority in features is likely to be hurt by the new iPhone, which "will have lots of added features." He also expects to see many of the features that have previously been rumored, including a sharper camera with video capture, a faster processor, a magnetometer-based compass and 32GB of internal storage.

The journalist anticipates the new iPhone is "likely available within a month."

While it's possible the claims are based solely on rumors, the certainty of some remarks has suggested inside knowledge. Mossberg is one of the few writers Apple currently seeds with advance information about its product launches and often has reviews of iPhones and Macs ahead of when they ship for the general public.

    short and thick!

Short and thick seems to sum it up perfectly!
Short on battery life; short on apps; short on auto-correction; and short. Thick on multi-tasking (which can a blessing and a curse); thick on price; thick on button-feel; thick on synergy (a good thing); and just thick.

I know many will forgive the Pre for being Palm's first multitouch smartphone - but not me. One - I don't grant companies a handicap as if they shouldn't be expected to learn from their competitors' progress. Two - in Palm's case, I specifically recall them boasting about their LONG legacy and expertise with touchscreen smartphones which informed them that supposedly Apple could never do anything as magnificent as the iPhone turned out to be.

So in my opinion the Pre should be superior to the iPhone in every way - it should be thinner, lighter, tighter, faster, smarter, higher-res, and that's just the hardware.
