NEC CRV43 Display

NEC today claimed the lead as the first mainstream company to ship an extra-wide, continguous desktop display. The CRV43 has a 43-inch, unbroken screen that handles resolutions up to 2880x900. Its 3.2:1 aspect ratio is wide enough to almost completely fill peripheral vision and makes it ideal for simulations, where off-angle views are important, as well as home offices and professional situations where having multiple large windows open is essential.

Although it doesn't say, NEC is believed to base the CRV43 on DLP rear projection rather than LCD and so can claim much better color accuracy and response times than LCDs, even at its maximum resolution. The color gamut includes all of the sRGB space and 99.3 percent of Adobe RGB; pixel update times are about 100 times faster at 0.02ms. Contrast is relatively high in spite of the size at 10,000:1.

Viewers also have their choice of display input, using either a single-link DVI connector or HDMI to reach the full resolution. A USB hub is also onboard the CRV43, which ships in July for $8,000.

Would be great on this if it was accurate with the peripheral views!

    I think...

I think this is the first time I've ever been romantically attracted to a display... I think it's out of my league though :(

    Kinda steep

Kinda steep price...$8k! I've got dual 22" LCDs which get me 3360x1050 for ~$600. The value proposition isn't there unless you REALLY need it to be seemless.

    awesome, but

That's freakin' awesome and wicked cool, but it's just not really justifiable. It's short on resolution and big on price. I'd easily choose Apple's 30" screen instead (despite the flat vs curved & the pix response specs).

Now, if it was 3840x900 pixels and around $3000, then we could talk.

    re: awesome, but

I totally agree. My first reaction was "I want it", then I saw that it was a 43 inch, $8000 monitor with less than HD resolution!
